Cashier jobs at Redner’s Markets in Collegeville, PA, are ready and waiting for applicants with integrity and a strong work ethic. We regularly accept applications to welcome employees into our employee-owned operation.
Cashiers bookend the grocery shopping experience. They’re both the first and the last faces seen by our customers, so their skills and attitudes matter a great deal. We want loyal customers, so our cashiers must demonstrate welcome, respect, efficiency, and accuracy as they perform their duties.
What skills do cashiers need?
Customer Service – When you shop for groceries, how many different employees do you interact with? In most cases, the answer is one: the cashier. Redner’s Markets is searching for cashiers who communicate respectfully and are motivated by the goal of helping customers have a successful shopping experience. If satisfaction requires an extra step, our cashiers should be eager. They should also know our policies, our inventory, and product locations.
General Math Calculations – Cashiers utilize cash registers to calculate subtotals, totals, and even change returned, but they still need to be able to do basic math. Identifying wildly inaccurate amounts indicated by the cash register will alert cashiers to mistakes made during input. Customers may also change the amount of cash provided after entering it the first time, and cashiers will need to make adjustments. Quick change scams can fool cashiers when they don’t take their time and aren’t able to compute figures mentally.
Maintaining the Environment – Keeping the workspace clean is an integral part of a cashier’s duties. The conveyor belt on which groceries move forward, the keypad for entering PIN numbers, and the register must be sanitized regularly throughout a shift. The front end’s candy and drink racks must be organized and uncluttered.
Calm Under Pressure – A cashier works various shifts in different registers and may even float among departments. Redner’s Markets cashiers must remain flexible and calm in all situations. When the holiday and weekend rush comes, our cashiers can’t crumble under pressure. Lines may be long and customers cranky, but cashiers need to smile politely and do their jumps efficiently but accurately.
