Special Programs
Throughout the calendar year, Redner’s Markets engages in three company-wide causes; U.S.M.C.R. Toys for Tots, The American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Feeding America’s Huddle to Fight Hunger.
U.S.M.C. Toys for Tots
Since 1981, Redner’s has collected toys and supported the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive. Each November, Redner’s begins the Toys for Tots fundraising efforts by placing donation bottles at check out counters, asking suppliers to give support through special promotions. Annually, we collect approximately $100,000 to buy new toys and at least four tractor-trailer loads of new toys to be donated to local children.
American Cancer Society Relay for Life
Redner’s has long been a supporter of the American Cancer Society. During the spring of each year, Redner’s stores and employees embark on a purple mission; to help end cancer. In addition to funding much of the world’s cancer research; The American Cancer Society is a non-profit organization that provides information on cancer prevention and detection. They offer programs to help patients and their families cope with the disease and work to improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with cancer. Redner’s also is a leading corporate team partner, encouraging its employees to become engaged in their community and take part in a local Relay for Life by forming a store team. Redner’s employee-owners annually field over 30 Relay for Life teams throughout Pa., Md. & De.
Feeding American & Local Food Banks
September is “Hunger Action Month.” According to Feeding America, a donation of $1 will provide three meals or helps provide 10 pounds of food and grocery products to men, women and children facing hunger in our country. By raising $50,000 we can feed 150,000 hungry families within a community. One in six young children live on the brink of hunger according to a new report issued today by Feeding America. The rate of food insecurity in young children is 33 percent higher than in U.S. adults, where one in eight live at risk of hunger. Now, more than ever, we can help make a difference as many are out of work and rely upon the local food bank or soup kitchen for a meal. During September, Redner’s partners with Feeding America to Bag Hunger program to promote the current fight against hunger in our country. During this time Redner’s will collect donations for the Feeding America food bank in the effort to spread awareness of our nation’s food crisis and feed the hungry within the local community.
