Redner's has announced that is will be relocating its Palmyra store and original, "warehouse market" operation to a new building and shopping center in the fall of 2008. The move will be to the planned North Side Commons Shopping Center, to be built and managed by Cedar Shopping Centers, Inc. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2008 pending all township and construction approvals are met.
"The current location is old and in need of several improvements to the structure. We have been unable to come to an agreement with the owner to complete needed building improvements and felt it best to relocate," stated chief operating officer, Ryan Redner. "The new store will be approximately 8,ooo sq. ft. larger than the current location offering many new upgrades. We will now be able to increase the amount of products and services we are not able to offer presently. Such a sweeping change to this location is long overdue and we hope the community will see it as a welcomed improvement," Redner added.
The Palmyra Warehouse Market opened in 1985 and is the original store to utilize, the now highly successful, 'warehouse' sales format. Redner's implemented its warehouse sales format in 1988 and saw sales triple over the next year. Based on the success of the new format in Palmyra, Redner's changed its entire retailing format to a warehouse operation. The new store will measure approximately 48,000 square feet upon completion.
When opened, the Palmyra Warehouse Market will be a full service grocery store offering services such as; in-store bakery, full-service deli, fresh produce, meat and seafood departments, along with frozen, dairy, health and beauty aids/non-foods and grocery departments. For the consumer’s added convenience, each store will feature U-Scan Check-Out Terminals. New to the format for this store will be the addition of self-service fuel pumps located within the store’s parking lot. At full operating conditions, this store will employ approximately 110 people in both full and part-time positions.
Redner's Markets, Inc., an employee owned company, currently operates 40 Warehouse Markets and 12 Quick Shoppes throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland.
