April 23, 2004 - A New Twist to Redner's Markets Annual National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fundraising Program

Reading, Pa. - Heading into the final stretch of our 2004 National Multiple Sclerosis MS Walk program, consumers will find most Warehouse Market's front walls filled with MS Sneakers.  As the major cog in the MS fundraising machine, these $1 sneakers are an easy way for consumers to help us in the fight against MS.  What consumers may not usually notice are the same sneakers being sold in Redner's Quick Shoppes.  Typically the sale of sneakers within the Warehouse Market's far exceeds those in the smaller quick shoppes but this year the challenge has been issued and the shoppe in Fleetwood has raised the bar to help achieve Redner's 2004 fundraising goal of $150,000.

Manager Geraldine Bensinger, more known to customers and associates as Gheng, wanted to put a different spin on the MS sneaker program this year and prove to the Warehouse Markets just how true the statement, “Small but powerful” means.  Gheng, along with other co-workers at the Breezy Corners shoppe took the sneaker sale to a higher level of involvement and challenged their customers to a silent sneaker auction!  Each consumer, upon entering the store, can see the current high sneaker bid and bidder's name in their MS Sneaker Auction.  Each time a customer purchased more sneakers than the current high, they will have their name inserted into the sneaker.  Past high bids are hung inside the store for other customers to view.

Bensinger states; “The idea was a combined effort by everyone here at Breezy.  We thought it would be different to offer a challenge to our customers and raise more money for the MS Society.”  Well it has caused quite a stir with regular customers at the quick shoppe.  Each day the amount donated continues to grow, with the current high bid being $70 of sneakers purchased.  Bensinger said that another customer has stated they are bound and determined to be the high bidder and win the grand prize.

Bids will be accepted until Sunday, May 2.  Stop in today to place your bid for the grand prize…a free cup of coffee or fountain soda!
